Dispute with taxi driver Part 2: Pick-up or drop-off locations

💬 With [pouvoir], French often uses the plain present to make a polite request: [Vous pouvez me déposer ?] = "Can you drop me off?" The little [me] goes before the verb, as in [vous pouvez me laisser] too.

💬 [S'il vous plaît] literally means "if it pleases you," but use it as a fixed polite chunk for "please." The final [t] in [plaît] is silent.

💬 [Devant] means "in front of," so [déposer devant la gare] is literally "drop off in front of the station." You can swap the place: [devant l'hôtel], [devant l'entrée].

💬 French often builds this with the person after the verb: [déposer quelqu'un] = "drop someone off." Swap in a pronoun and it moves before the verb: [me déposer], [vous déposer].

💬 [Gare] on its own usually means a train station, not a generic station. In speech, [la gare] has a clear long-ish vowel in [gare], not like English "gar."

💬 In [m'arrêter], [me] becomes [m'] before a vowel and joins the next word, so it can't stand alone. [S'arrêter] means "to stop oneself / to stop," and with [je] it becomes [je m'arrête].
