🇮🇹 [Buonasera] works well with restaurant staff from late afternoon onward and sounds politely standard. It is safer than [ciao] when you're calling or arriving at a place you don't know.

💬 [Vorrei] is a softer, more polite way to ask for something than a direct [voglio]. You can reuse it with many restaurant needs: [Vorrei prenotare], [vorrei un tavolo], [vorrei sapere].

💬 [Un] becomes [uno] before certain sounds, so compare [un tavolo] but [uno speciale]. You'll see the same pattern with [un menu] but [uno sconto].

💬 Italian often uses [vorrei] for polite requests where English might simply say "I'd like." It's a very useful all-purpose pattern: [Vorrei prenotare], [vorrei chiedere], [vorrei sapere].
