Lesson Vocabulary & Phrases
みんな、あつまって!
minna atsumatsu te
Everyone, gather!
💬 Kid-friendly command. [あつまって] is the te-form of [あつまる] (“to gather”), used like “Come here!” Coaches often clap while saying it.
🇯🇵 In Japanese kids’ sports, coaches often start with a quick [あつまって!] to reset attention before giving short instructions.
See breakdown →みんな
minna
Everyone
💬 Super common with kids. You can add [みんなで] = “all together/as a team.”
🇯🇵 Team unity is emphasized, so [みんな] shows you’re talking to the whole group, not singling someone out.
See breakdown →あつまって
atsumatsu te
Gather (come together)
💬 Te-form command. Softer: [あつまってね] (“Gather up, okay?”). Stronger: [あつまって!]
🇯🇵 Japanese coaching often uses short te-form verbs for quick, clear directions.
See breakdown →コーチ
koochi
Coach
💬 Loanword. Often said as [コーチ] or with a name: [コーチ!] to call you.
🇯🇵 Kids may also say [せんせい] to instructors even in sports clubs, but [コーチ] is common in soccer.

~
In/at/to (location particle)
💬 [に] marks the destination or where someone/something “is/stays”: [ここにいる]. For “do an action at,” you often use [で].
🇯🇵 Particles matter a lot in Japanese—kids learn them by hearing lots of short coaching phrases.
See breakdown →いればいい?
ire ba ii
Should I stay?/is it okay if I stay?
💬 Pattern: [〜すればいい?] = “Should I just do ~?” Here [いる] → [いれば]. Sounds like asking for the “correct answer.”
🇯🇵 Japanese learners/kids often check instructions like this to avoid making mistakes—very normal in group settings.
See breakdown →どこにいればいい?
doko ni ire ba ii
Where should I be?
💬 Great for positioning. You can answer with a place + [に]: [まんなかに], [サイドに].
🇯🇵 In kids’ soccer, coaches often use simple location words rather than complex formation terms.
See breakdown →どこ?
doko
Where?
💬 Very casual and quick. More polite: [どこですか?]
🇯🇵 With kids, short questions like [どこ?] keep the tempo fast during drills.
See breakdown →ここ
koko
Here
💬 Point while saying [ここ]. For “over there”: [そこ] (near you) / [あそこ] (far from both).
🇯🇵 Japanese coaching uses lots of pointing + simple words like [ここ] for clarity.
