Lesson Roleplay

Imagine you're in a taxi in China with a big suitcase. The driver stopped at the north gate, but you want to get to the south gate.

dào le a jiù tíng zhè ér ba

Here we are. I'll stop here, okay?

shī fù bù hǎo yì sī zhè shì běi mén ba wǒ yào qù de shì nán mén

Excuse me, sir, this is the north gate, right? I'm going to the south gate.

nǐ dìng wèi jiù zài běi mén zhè ér a rào dào nán mén dé hǎo jǐ fēn zhōng ne

Your pin was right here at the north gate. Going around to the south gate takes quite a few minutes.

kě néng shì wǒ dìng wèi méi nòng hǎo má fán nín rào yī xià xíng ma wǒ tuō zhe gè dà xiāng zi

Maybe I set the pin wrong. Would you mind going around? I've got a big suitcase.

rào guò qù dào méi wèn tí kě nán mén nà tiáo lù zǎo shàng shì dān xíng kāi bù jìn qù

Going around is no problem, but the road at the south gate is one-way in the mornings, so I can't get in.

jiù tíng zhè ér ba

I'll stop here, okay?

💬 吧 at the end turns a statement into a soft suggestion that asks for agreement. Swap in another place: 就停门口吧? "just stop at the entrance, okay?"
