Lesson Roleplay

Imagine you're at a busy bar in Lisbon. You want to sit next to a friendly local, buy her a drink, and maybe get her number.

Boa noite, desculpe. Este lugar está livre, ou está à espera de alguém?

Good evening, excuse me. Is this seat free, or are you waiting for someone?

Está livre, pode sentar-se. Pelo sotaque, aposto que não é daqui.

It's free, go ahead and sit. Judging by the accent, I bet you're not from around here.

Fui assim tão óbvio? E eu a achar que já passava por lisboeta.

Was I that obvious? And here I was thinking I could pass for a Lisboner.

Quase! Mas ouvi-te pedir "uma cerveja pequena". Aqui diz-se uma imperial.

Almost! But I heard you order "a small beer". Here we say an imperial.

Então ensina-me como deve ser. Posso pagar-te uma, para treinar o nome?

Then teach me properly. Can I buy you one, so I can practise the name?
