Basic numbers: Paying the grocery bill

🇹🇼 [你好] is standard and polite, but in many small shops in Taiwan people may skip it and go straight to the question or payment. You'll still hear it, just not as automatically as in textbook dialogues.

💬 [一共] means "altogether / in total" and often comes before the number: [一共五樣]、[一共兩百元]. You can swap in a different total after it.

💬 [樣] is a counting word for kinds or items, especially when talking about purchases: [五樣] means five items. You can reuse it with other numbers like [三樣] or in questions like [幾樣].

💬 [幾樣] is a handy pattern: [幾] + item word asks "how many items." You can build similar questions with other measure words, like [幾個] or [幾杯].

💬 In [一共幾樣？], [一共] sets up the total and [幾樣] asks for the number of items. The same pattern works with money too: [一共多少錢？]

💬 Before a measure word, [一] is usually said as (yí), so [一個] is (yí ge). On its own as the number 1, it's (yī).
