🇫🇷 Staff in shops and restaurants use this past-tense phrasing to sound gentle and helpful. It doesn't mean they think the event has already happened.

💬 French dates go le + day + number + month, with no capital letters and no "th". So it's le samedi 3 mai "Saturday, May 3rd".

💬 Pot literally means "pot" or "jar", but here it means a drinks gathering.

🇫🇷 A pot de départ is a big tradition in French workplaces, often organized by colleagues. Saying this tells the restaurant to expect a lively, mixed-age group and maybe speeches.

💬 Adding -là points to "that" one, away in time: ce jour-là "that day". Adding -ci means "this" one, closer: ce soir-ci "this evening".

🇫🇷 Staff often use this after a refusal to offer an alternative, so listen for what follows.

💬 Vous sits before the verb it goes with, not after. Swap in Je peux vous aider "I can help you".

💬 En revanche "on the other hand" signals that an alternative is coming after a no. It has nothing to do with revenge.

💬 The extra -e makes the word match a feminine noun, here la mezzanine. It is pronounced exactly like séparé.

💬 Risquer de plus an action means "might" or "is likely to", for something unwelcome. So ça risque d'être bruyant means "it might be noisy".

💬 The s of les joins the next word: les autres sounds like (lay-zohtr).

🇫🇷 Staff use on to mean "you" or "people" in general when giving a polite warning. It sounds frank without pointing at the guest.

💬 Elle refers back to la mezzanine, because French calls every thing "he" or "she". For le salon you'd say il est.

💬 Literally "that should go", aller here means to work out. Swap the verb to ça va aller "it'll be fine".

🇫🇷 For groups, French restaurants often require everyone to eat the same set menu chosen in advance. Expect to send your choices days ahead rather than ordering on the night.

💬 Au-delà de means "beyond" and works for any limit: au-delà de minuit "after midnight".

💬 Unique after a noun means "single, only one", not "special".

💬 À partir de means "starting from" and works for prices, times, and dates: à partir de 19h "from 7 pm".

💬 À partir de works for any starting point, not just prices: à partir de 19 heures "from 7 pm onwards", à partir de lundi "from Monday on".

🇫🇷 Group menus in France are usually quoted per head as a fixed set menu, and the drinks package is often priced separately. Ask whether wine and coffee are included before you compare quotes.

💬 When there are two of these little words before the verb, me comes before le. So it's me l'envoyer, never the other way round, and le shortens to l' before the vowel.

💬 French uses par for how something is sent, as in par téléphone "by phone" and par courrier "by post".

🇫🇷 Many Paris restaurants offer a mezzanine or a back room as a semi-private space for groups. You usually don't pay a room fee for it, but there may be a minimum spend.

💬 When spelling out an email, the @ sign is arobase "at sign" and the dot is point "dot".

💬 In speech, a plain statement with a rising tone works as a question, with no word order change needed. Try Vous avez une salle privée ? "Do you have a private room?"

💬 Beaucoup means "a lot", so this is literally "thanks a lot". You can't build it with très "very" the way English does; merci très is wrong.

🇫🇷 Adding madame or monsieur without a surname is normal, polite French. It doesn't sound stiff the way "ma'am" can in English.
