🇯🇵 Saying そうでしたか after someone explains themselves shows you accept their reason. It calms a tense moment before you raise your own concern.

💬 いただき means "receiving". It's a polite way to thank someone for something they did for you, for example ご協力いただき "for your cooperation".

💬 The past form ました thanks someone for something already finished, like at the end of a ride. Use ございます (gozaimasu) for help that's still going on.

🇯🇵 Thanking the driver formally after he lowers the fare ends the dispute on good terms. In Japan it's expected to show you appreciate the compromise rather than just pay and leave.
